sea hare

Hello everyone.

I believe I've got an issue with ulva algae that's beginning to cover coral's and a lot of rock
I have a tang and an algae blenny but they don't seem to be doing much about it
Would a sea hare eat ulva lactuca?
Are they a good idea to add to a reef tank?
Any advice would be great

Sea hare May. Or may not
A sure bet will be white lights off and blues below 30% with addition of fluconasal (flux) or vibrant at 80% of recommended dosage

How long are the lights going to have to be off for ?
I have a fair amount of SPS in the tank
The tank is 220 gallons not sure how much vibrant is or how much is cost but I'm guessing it's not going to be cheap

I had had many different Naso tangs crush ulva. Not all fish like it, but some do. I would try a few different fish or urchins before you use an algaecide - the unintended consequences are severe for some who use it.

I only have a purple tang in the tank
I'm not overly keen on putting chemicals into the tank if I can help it
I do have a blue tuxedo urchin in the tank as well but he doesn't really seem to be doing alot apart from relocating my frags for me
I'd prefer if possible to try a natural approach without upsetting the tank too much

I was looking at getting a vampire tang not sure if that would eat ulva
I'd like a naso but don't think my tank is big enough for an adult
