I have a 90 gal with 20 gal sump. Currently I am left with a File fish, 2 clowns, yellow watchman goby, cherub angel, hawkfish, LPS corals and rose bubble tip anemones. In the past several months hermits and snails began to disappear then I have had a coral beauty, yellow tang, scopas tang, pearl scale butterfly, brittle star disappear without a trace. I removed most of the live rock into a 29 gal (anything that had a hole in it that could house anything). Then I had an anemone that had split maybe a month earlier disappear without a trace! I took everybody out of the main tank, went through the sand bed and found nothing. Put everybody back in except the live rock still in the 29 gal. I have been in the hobby for 15 years and am totally at a loss. I'm afraid to put any fish in. I would welcome any ideas.

Bait a trap and put it in with the live rock. Sounds like somethings in there if they did in fact leave no trace. Is the tank out in the open or is it next to other furniture? I had a couple of jumpers I could never find and they ended up behind books on a nearby bookshelf. Still can't believe they got that far from tank.

Hmmmm- Gorilla crab, Fireworm, Mantis ???

There is a thread on R2R right now about tank cameras. Maybe get one of those (Wyze for example) and look at the footage in the morning.

So...no sea monster yet but a bit of a related surprise. I discovered 2 baby BT anemone's in my sump. Both are smaller than a penny. I have had them multiply many times but never seen little ones. And what they were doing in the sump with no light is beyond me. Both are out now. I put the bigger on in the main tank and he found a nice little spot. Seems to be happy. The other one is in the tank with all the live rock and has settled down. I never did find the big one that disappeared.

I found the same thing. Nems can leave babies when a piece breaks off when they move. It is now full grown and doing fine.
