I was going to do 1/2 cup per gallon of water, which is what I was doing with reef crystals. Test it and see if it's off

i use Fritz and had the same issue. I called them to get the mixing directions and they stated to use 2.5 cups per 5 gallons which comes out to be 1/2 cup per gallon. It worked out fine for me so i hopes this helps you..

I like the regular Instant Ocean because it mixes up to the right parameters and I can leave it mixing and heated for emergency use. A lot of other salts apparently have organics in them so they should not be left mixing and heated. Down side to IO is it dose leave a lot of clay residue in the mixing container. But doesn't bother me. I just clean it out every few months.

Normal Instant Ocean (like other high alk mixes) typically leaves a white precipitate of calcium carbonate. I don't think that is any concern and I let it accumulate for years. Apparently, if you lower the alk and pH with muriatic acid, you can avoid such precipitates.

Reef Crystals leaves a brownish residue that may be related to the organic matter in it.

@Randy Holmes-Farley I apologise as I'm sure you've answered this question a million times, but what's your take on Fritz? I bought a box and my reef crystals just ran out so I'm going to make the switchover next week when I do my water change and would like an expert input on it.
