I'm new to marine aquariums and was wondering about sea salt. I noticed at my local Costco that they sell a 30 ounce bottle of pure sea salt. The label says, "Harvested from the pristine waters off of Brazil's northern coast, this sea salt is 100% natural." I did the calculations and found that it would be less expensive to use this instead of the prepared mix you get at aquarium supply houses.
Any reason not to use it? It doesn't have any iodine added to it. I'm planning a fish only aquarium at this time.

Welcome to R2R. And it would be nice if we could use this for our mix...

I love this salt from Costco to season food, but it is not for a marine aquarium. Sorry.

As others have said, you're buying just salt. Sea water contains a significant amount of other minerals which are required to have stable water parameters (specifically, lots of magnesium, some calcium, and carbonate), which purified sea salt will totally lack.

Use Instant Ocean or any other salt mix. Buy the large buckets and its cheap.

Thank you everyone for the helpful advice.
I am going to buy the Instant Ocean sea salt at my local Petco. I want what is best for the fish I'm planning to keep.
