is this a bad Sea Star?...???

There are certain varieties that are suspected of being coral predators. I've not seen any such behavior personally, but allegations have been made.

They can, under the right conditions, become a nuisance just on numbers... I've seen them reach plague populations, but it's rare. Some reefers strive to eliminate them, regardless. Harlequin shrimp make short work of them... unfortunately, once the asterina are gone, the harlequin will starve.

Personally, I agree with the 'valued members of the clean up crew' viewpoint. I go out of my way to make sure I've introduced asterina to my tanks.

I do take em out when I see them now.

But I have plenty to spare.

Can get invasive quick at one point I couldn’t count the number I had on my glass but they do munch on coraline algae I’ve noticed.

They can become a problem with eating some corals. There is some in my tank that have taken to the taste of my gsp zoas and zoapallys. I will see if i can find a picture and post it

I have this picture on my imstagram. Its a bad shot but you can see the star fully xovwring the pollyp
