Recently I was watching a Mr saltwater tank live stream and saw that his sea swirl wasn't mounted like the normal configuration.

Would anyone happen to know of have a link as to how he mounted his so that it sits above the tank more?

I'd really like to get mine more out of my tank but I'm not sure how to get it tk mount securely to the eurobrace while in operation.

Sea Swirls can supply different mounting hardware.
As far as being done while running - I wouldn't!

Mine are mounted on a Eurobraced tank - when I ordered mine I had to request this. I've seen a few people extend or make their own acrylic mounting bracket so that the return on the unit is not as much in the water. I don't think it is necessary although I see why people do it. I do like the trick people are using through with the reverse gate valve so when the return is shut off it will open and allow air in rather than drilling on the sea swirl itself.

What's that trick with the reverse gate valve? Do you have a link?

I do not. I only saw it in passing when watching one of the videos Melev's posts. I was going to send him a message to see if he is still using it since I've seen a few others incorporating it into their plumbing. It is a reverse check valve that plumbed inline so that when the pump is on it pushes and closes the valve. It has a reducer on the end for a 1/4 john guest valve over the sump area I think. I've seen another over the tank. In any case when the return is off the valve would open since no water is against it allowing air in and in theory stopping the return siphon rather than drilling the hole in the elbow of the sea swirl.

I've not added this to my system. I was looking at it but not done so yet - still need to read a bit about it. I have a pair of SS and considering either adding another pair and 2nd return or adding a 2nd return and moving one to the opposite side. I like them a lot. I'm not too happy with my Gyres at the moment but this is only due to a maturing tank with not a lot of coral to break the flow.

I've always used SS - previously on my 100 gallon had a pair and really enjoyed them. The ones I'm using now are 1". Going to order some of the random flow nozzles and see how they preform.
