This Sea Urchin hitch hiked into my tank. He's pretty cool but seems to be growing at a rapid pace. Does anyone know what kind of sea urchin it is or if it's venomous? I don't intend on handling or disturbing him but I'd like to know. He came in from Tampa, Florida.

It looks like a "Pink Pin Cushion Urchin" as they are commonly sold in the hobby. They are generally reef safe with caution. I wouldn't put one in a trophy SPS collection but I would put one in my mixed reef. I would keep on eye on it, you will know if it starts munching hard corals as they will have some nibbles taken from their base or trunks.

Thanks for the information. I'll do more research with what you've told me. I appreciate it :)
