Sea urchin shells in aquarium?

So recently my mom brought back some sea urchin shells from Jamaica. Got them straight from the sea. I’m just wondering is it is safe to add to the aquarium as they look really cool. I understand cleaning them and what not and know that they can trap food and waist. But just wondering if it is over all safe. Will they decay or anything? Thanks.
