My LFS said this salt is crashing their systems, employees, and customer tanks after using a batch of this salt...

I have been using it for 10 years now and never any issues with it. Granted every company puts out a bad batch every now and then. I would suggest mixing a batch and sending in an Icp test to see why

just dumped the 120 gallon bucket right into vat of cold water.. time will tell

It'll be fine , the company refunded all corals customers lost because of the water change water they got from my lfs which used that salt

yep.. cloudy cloudy.. then heater on and now two days ...still a bit of cloudy looking down the vat but .. but starting to clear up..

I don't know whether to believe this, or not. I have seen many things get blamed for issues in systems and salt is likely the most common one, along with "the neighbor sprayed for weeds," "air freshener," "I had something on my hands." However, I have been doing this for a long time and while I have found some salt to be inferior to others, none have ever crashed a tank. I absolutely DO NOT think that all salts are created equal, but this is just crazy - not all companies put out a bad batch if you remove what I said above about phantom reasons to blame salt. I am wary of any salt company that gives you assay of individual batches - can they not replicate batch to batch? Seems dumb to me... like a cook that does not use a recipe.

Is there any real evidence here, or just hearsay on this one instance?

FWIW - SeaChem had issues with Salinity a number of years ago. Heard they replaced all of their chemists - no idea if it is true. Anybody still using it should probably be wary or at least not surprised if this is true.

...sorry for the ramble, just want to see if any evidence comes out of this.

Frankly,, this is just not worth the batch of 120 gallons of water.. i see cloudy, clear, not to mix with top.. do not heat, do not over mix.. ect.. with so many salts out there why would one go through all this bs.. sorry just my 2 cents.. i have used ESV... four parts pain maybe.. but i do 100 gallon bathes.. with no issues..use all the four parts and done.. clear and clean no residue or cloudy or more.. Tropic marin no issues either.. instant ocean.. old but true.. yes brown cake yes.. but no issues.. down the drain it goes.. not worth it to me..

This happened around August 1, 2020. MY LFS first noticed a problem after they did a water change in their system using this salt, they had crashes across multiple isolated systems from one to another. Customers later reported the same affects in their system. My LFS sent them a water sample as well, and they tested it, I think they found an impurity of some type, but they couldn't confirm when or where they made it into the salt or water since it could have happened at many instances

Do you by any chance have the batch number & lot number of your salt?

yep.. lot 9305.00 I let the water sit.. and no pump... today it is clear. go figure. three days to clear up..

No negative effects so far.. not sure I would continue to use when other brands mix clear with no issues such as ESV..
