For my 20 gallon hexagon saltwater tank, should I put in my wave maker when I put in the clarity? My boyfriend purchased the wrong wave maker and my tank is taking longer to clear up because of how strong it was. (175 gallon) i added a cap full of the clarity today and it still looks the same. Do I need to get the water moving to make it clear up?

The tank was full but I've emptied the skimmer a lot in the last 2 days like every 5 minutes. I had to turn off the filter over night because it would overflow. So I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I've had like 4 different saltwater tanks and I've never had this issue. I've put clarity in twice. I don't have my circulation pump on either. But like I did say, I had a circulation pump that was rated for a 140-250 gallon tank plugged in and I didn't realize it was the wrong one until all the sand was moving around a lot. My boyfriend bought it for me and I didn't think to look because I assumed it was the right one at the time.

Your filter being on would help a lot. Clarity just makes the very fine particles clump together and able to be filtered out. Without the filter on, you're just waiting for those particles to float to the bottom.

Also, if you're using a Hang On Back filter (which I think I see), getting some "polishing pads" for it will help a ton. They filter out smaller particles.

Okay!! It's a filter and skimmer built into one. It's from coralife. I added freshwater to lower the salinity because it's 0.030. I bought the premade saltwater and I honestly didn't check the salinity before adding it in because I assumed it would of been fine. But no I'm not so sure now. I don't think my heater is working either so I'm struggling at the moment.

What polishing pads would you recommend?? Anything i can get from like petco that I can buy today if it's on store??

The skimmer and filter will help you out.

Any filter pad will work. They are usually blue or white. It’s just felt.
 
I bought the fluval quick clear filter and I just put it behind my coralife replacement filter cartridge. Is there anything else I should do??

Just FYI:
Clarity™ can be added every 24 hours as needed, however, if your water has not cleared you may not have adequate mechanical filtration. We recommend using filter floss (poly-fil) in your filter when adding Clarity, as this is a very fine mechanical filter that will remove the undissolved particulates. It is completely normal for the water to become more cloudy on the addition of Clarity, as it is a flocculating agent that will clump together the particulates, making larger particulates that are easily filtered out with the filter floss. Keep in mind that you may have to change out the floss a couple of times during the treatment, as it may get clogged or saturated.

Which I've done. So that's why I'm confused. I've done everything i had to do. And there's no change.

Okay. I'll try that. Should I do like a 25% change or more??

FWIW....heres what the manual says:
Water is rapidly overflowing the collection cup
• Cartridge is clogged causing water to back up.
Clean or replace cartridge
• Certain organic chemicals or changes in water
chemistry can cause a skimmer to over foam.
Close the airline valve for 24 hours and then
restart skimming
 
Folks all of this back and forth is crazy.

@Yesevil123 - It is hard to help without context. We don't know anything about you (experience) or your tank or what happened.

Can you spend 10 minutes and clearly explain everything for us in a few paragraphs.

How long has it been setup. How long was the other tank (i think I saw you had a smaller one) setup? Livestock? Etc. Walk us through EVERYTHING please. Then we can help you without guessing.


Also - don't start any more threads until this gets all sorted out. It will just be more confusing.
