Does anyone use this? I bought some to put in my refugium instead of live rock rubble but haven't added it yet. I am looking for some feedback from someone who has experience with it.

seems like the pieces are large do you think there will be a problem with crud building up or are you going to have it where you can rinse it out?

They are about the size of a marble, give or take a little. I was going to put it underneath my chaeto in the fuge, but now that I got home and looked at it, I'm not sure.

I put them in a canister filter. They need Water pass through fast. Still waiting to see results. May take month

Every one that I know that has used it has had to remove it from time to time to flush it out as it does build up with crud and detritus over time like spscrazy stated above.

Can pods live in that? and Flushing ...wouldnt that flush the pods out..

I built a stand about 2 inches off the ground using the egg crate ,this way all my rocks are off the bottom and get good flow and then i can suck up all the crap

Yes pods can live in matrix and when flushing you would loose those pods. The egg crate method you are using will work and maybe on occasion just blast it with a power head in your hand so that any detritus that might build up can blow off and fall to your lower level for sucking out of sump.

I just don't see that advantages outweighing the disadvantages. Think I might take it back.

Ok ive used this stuff for years (5+) and on one of my nano tanks i use it becuase of the great biological surface area it has! I have also never rinsed my matrix in over 4 years dues to me having it in a high flow area and have never had problems with it acutally i never have nitrate problems in my tank. I attended a seminar about seachem products and this was one they went over and i dont remember the exact number but i remember that one jar had more surface are than 1000+ bioballs for biological.

One tank has is in front of the cascade of water coming off my baffles in my refugium. The other setup is in a hob on my nano which has been up for over 5 years.

I put it in my sump yesterday. For ease of cleaning, I put it in a knee-hi stocking. (Had to double it because the rock was making holes..lol. I placed in the area between the fuge and skimmer compartments. It's getting good flow there because the fuge trickles water over the ledge onto it. I'll wait a month or so and reply back any differences I find.

I placed mine in a Seachem bag and put it in a power filter. It did get pretty nasty and i had to wash it. But i had no nitrate problems. Great stuff just rinse it off in the water you take when you do your water changes. That way you will not destroy the bacteria.
