My female clown has white spots on its fins, so I showed my lfs a picture and they recommended Seachem Paraguard. I’ve dosed for two days now, and whenever I add it my zoa closes instantly and my duncan doesn’t close but it’s tentacles shrink and it’s “mouth” is completely open. These are my first two corals so I don’t know much about coral behavior. Is that normal? Should I stop dosing?

Since your corals show stress and it does not cure ich, I personally would not use it.

Can we get pics of the fishes fins?

Decided to sell my frag plugs back to my lfs while I treat the tank with the Paraguard. It ended up being cheaper than buying a reef safe medication and I’ll end up with new healthy frags. Thanks everyone!

Paraguard is definitely not reef safe. It contains malachite green and a formalin alternative. I also doubt it’s effectiveness against saltwater ich.

Only because my fish seem fine and i’m on a budget, I’m going to give the paraguard a shot before buying something more expensive. My lfs said it should work fine, what makes you doubt it’s effectiveness?

Personal experience in a retail setting. I tried it on multiple systems on several occasions and never saw improvement in symptoms (ich). I’ve since switched back to using copper (cupramine).

No it’s not reef safe and not only that Paraguard does not cure ich and will generally kill inverts. Copper in a quarantine tank will handle the ich and leave your reef tank without fish for 45 days

Also, please find a new LFS
