Does Paraguard really help or not. Mixed reviews locally, some believe lots of hype behind some of seachems Claims on their products, your experience please.

It does, for the right illness. It's a aldehyde and malachite green. I highly recommend it for brooklynella. For marine ich and velvet, copper is a better choice imo.

You said keyword- Claims
There is little to no success with product.
If ich- use coppersafe at 2.25-2.5
Flukes- Prazi pro
Bacteria- Maracyn 2 or seachem Kanaplex

It would seem to be most useful as a 'prophylactic' as compared to a treatment. It also seems to be more affective in freshwater than salt. (the recommendations for saltwater are a full 28 days in a hospital type tank). It's considered to be not 'reef-safe'. Given the contents - it would seem it's more indicated towards diseases treated with formaldehyde (and I would try it before formaldehyde myself). as @Spare time said.

My guess is that failures (as you said reviews are mixed) is inadequate time duration - or some other specific to the tank/misdiagnosis of the illness, etc. I would not use it as a treatment for Ich or velvet.

Thanks for your input

I haven't had to treat Brooklynella for years, so I can't say if Paraguard works for that or not, but it does not seem very effective against ich or velvet in marine fish. IMO, it is more viable for use with FW fish.
