I have read that Seachem prime is a chemical that will last about 24-48 hours. Using this to lower nitrates is it just essentially a mask cause after the time it will just boost back up?

It will come back in time if the source is there.

How old is your tank and what's your water parameters?

If I understand correctly, Seachem prime simply binds the nitrate and nitrite. Removal is still dependent on biological filtration.

Hydrosulifte salts are used. Maybe @Randy Holmes-Farley could explain, as I'm not a chemist.
