looking to setup my 20 gallon long and i dont have room for a sump so im gonna be doing a hob filter. looking at the seachem tidal or the aquaclear. i cant decide. i like the skimming on the tidal but i heard it is smaller than the ac. i also heard the tidal is much quieter. need some opinions.

I personally like the Aqueon over the Aquaclear, but have not used the Seachem Tidal. The reason is sand or particles get in the aquaclear and make a grinding noise. In my experience, I have never had a Tetra Whisper fail or an Aqueon, but I have seen Aquaclear fail. It is rare, but it happens. It looks to me the Tidal has both of them beat.

This person just gave a rave review. Personally Im an AQ guy. never really had a problem, zero ecp with other hobs.. DEFINITELY get the oversize hob for the tank and measure for it.

FWIW were I to do another 20 I'd go w a AQ 70 and a finnex(or similar) HOB fuge. My current 30g cube is a tunze skimmer and AQ 70 converted to hob fuge.

Tidal , one of the best hang on's.
Comes with upto 5 year warranty.
Can't go wrong as it uses a Sicce motor block.

I have the Seachem Tidal and it is the quietest filter plus build quality is superb

I have a tidal and loved it. I switched to an aquacler thinking it was causing some microbubles but figured out it had nothing to do with the tidal. I'm planning on switching back to the tidal.

Thanks for the link!
Yes I love my two Tidals - but honestly the only two reasons I'd pick the Tidal over the AC are the Sicce motor and no need to prime the pump after a water change.

I have 2 ac's and you can't go wrong. I've used them for years on various tanks, one doing duty on a 40b macro and one on a 10g feeder tank right now. I do not hear them operating, if you do there's probably a problem like needing cleaning. They come in various sizes and are priced right, I customized baskets to divert water flow and stock with my choices of goodies. They have been just as efficient as any other filter options I have used.
