SeaChem Tidal75 HOB for a 40 Breeder?

Loooking into the Tidal 75 for my 40 Breeder.

How are the reviews on this filter? I wanted to just fill it up with Seachem Matrix and run filter floss thats it. System will only be a softie tank. Will be using special grade sand and 50/50 dry and live rock

I use the 75 on my 2 qt tanks and love them both. 2 years no issues and always start up no prob after power outage.

what do you run on the inside of the filters?

I just run the stock filter and rinse regularly.
I also throw a bag of carbon or finer filter floss as needed, it has a deep cavity.

stock filter you mean the blue pad at the bottom with carbon and finer filter floss?

I wanted to remove the blue filter pad that comes with it because I think it could be a nitrate trap, fill it up with matrix then on top of that use filter floss. All I would have to do is pop off the top and remove filter floss as needed
