I have had a 29 gallon tank that was made by sea clear. Its acrylic and I have loved the tank since day one a while ago.

Anyhow the tank has begun to fail and I mean fail. The tank began with some crazing for those who don't know what that means cracking inside of the acrylic. The crazing cracks have gotten so bad that the tank is bowing and has become untrust worthy.

The crazing is literally almost thru he entire 1/4 in. acrylic and I have had to take down the tank and replace the tank.

I have a lifetime warranty on the tank and have contacted seaclear. I hope they will replace this tank.

Anyone ever had a issue with these tanks they sell them at petco and petsmart.

I bought a glass tank and will probably never buy a acrylic aquarium again.

I think that the thickness 9f the acrylic needs to be thick and the sea clear 29 made there tanks with thinner acrylic to cut costs.

If I were to have another acrylic tank which I like more than glass I would diy a tank myself with thick acrylic.

I am sure the thinner acrylic is the reason for failure.

But you never know and they might replace the tank and everything will be ok.

Right now I'm about to forget sea clear or thin acrylic aquariums for life.

I am considering getting a truvu aquarium which are acrylic, but they are a little high so I hope it's not a thin acrylic.

Here is things are going
I have never used any cleaners on the tank only microfiber towels.

Is there another reason for this because I know it is not from the use of a cleaner as one has never touched the tank.

I do not trust this tank to hold water anymore. I don't have piece of mind going to sleep with a tank with cracks and crazing.

I am also sharing my experience with some online forums. on Reef central, Nano-reef and reef2reef.

Thank you for your inquiry.

Our warranty does not cover crazing, this is caused from using improper cleaning agents on the acrylic. This is not a manufacturing defect or material.

My suggestion is to visit a tropical fish store in your area and ask them if they carry acrylic cleaner and scratch removers. You might be able to buff the crazing, it depends on how bad your crazing is.

Thank you,

Steve

Subject: tank failing -- sent from the North American Pet Products contact form

I hae had my tank for almost 5 years it has begun to fail there is crazing that has gotten very bad.

I know that this tank (29 gallon) has a lifetime warranty.

How do I go about getting a replacement. Do I go to the petco I bought the tank from or do I need to go thru sea clear itself?

do I need to take pictures to seaclear or do I take the tank itself back to were I purchased the tank.

Some pics of the tank.

I've seen some pretty old acrylic tanks that have been cleaned with windex and other cleaners and I have NEVER seen that. As soon as I saw the picture I thought it looked like awfully thin acrylic for the application. Measure the thickness and let us know how thick it really is.

Here is a picture the acrylic is less than 1/4 inch and as you can see in the picture the acrylic has also turned yellow.
