Anybody using these hob skimmers? I hear they are junk but I got a free one and threw it on a tank that didn't have a skimmer.
What do you all think of these? Any mods I should do?
I've never used a hob skimmer before but my in sump skimmer on my other tank overflows on occasion, will this one overflow and flood my house???

They are junk. Some HOB skimmers are OK, but these do not work hardly at all. I would save the pump and plumbing in case you need a fix or retro on some other equipment somewhere down the road.

Flooding is my main concern, but you think it's a waste to use it at all? I'm not looking to replace it with a better one but if it's useless then I'll just go back to being skimmerless.

Flooding is always a risk with any skimmer, but I have no experience with this one specifically... sorry. Even if it will not skim much, it can still do gas exchange and drive off co2 - this is still a benefit.

There must be some kind of fail safe on hob skimmers to prevent flooding right? But I'm thinking it's too much of a risk to me. Thanks for the input!
