well, it almost died. it produces millions of microbubbles from the seams in the powerhead.

I need a new hob. it's a 75g tank... Id like to stay under $200. is that possible?

Sounds like the best thing that ever could have happened to you. Seaclones are one of the biggest pieces of junk ever sold in the hobby. This is my opinion but I know a thing or two about the hobby and skimmers. A seaclone on a 75 gallon is not an efficient skimmer, maybe it provides a bit more oxygen to the tank but as a skimmer its a waste.

I am not trying to be rude, Its just that its not a good skimmer, you can do alot better for under $200 then a seaclone,

it sucked Nick, haha. It was my first skimmer so I had nothing to compare it to. Dont worry, you didnt come off as rude at all. Any recommendations? And yes, all it has really done it oxygenate the tank.

Believe me, your not the only one to have had to find out the hard way that a piece of equipment you bought was not what it was advertised to be. Lots of local chain stores had these on the shelves back in the day and they were the best skimmers they had in the store so people bought them. Unfortunately they are no good. Reef Octopus does make some nice hang on skimmers if thats what you are looking for. If you have a sump though, I would go with an in sump model, heres a nice one for $199. that would be great for a 75 gallon tank

I had 2 Seaclowns,I found a simple, inexpensive mod that works great, save the pump and toss everything else, add a Sureflow propeller kit to the MJ1200 and at least you have a good powerhead :D

there should be a few HOB skimmers for less than $200 out there,my sister had 1 of these on her tank and it seemed to good job,she had the PSK75 but the larger is only a few dollars more and should do a great job on a 75g tank Reef Aquarium Filtration & Protein Skimmers: Eshopps Hang-On Protein Skimmers

I can't do an in-sump protein skimmer, just a hob. The eshopps psk100 seems like a viable option. Any thoughts?

Its a huge improvement over the seaclone. Thats for sure. If you have to go with a hang on then that looks like a good choice. Good price too.

at least you had a skimmer. I had one on my 29 gallon reef for 2 yrs. I would take it as a sign. it is time to upgrade. now I have a corallife 125 on my 75. there is a lot better skimmers out there but it does a dissent jobs for the price. you will see a big difference in clarity of the water for sure.

yep,I forgot about the corallife skimmer,my step bro uses 1 on his 75g and it seems to do a fine job,it is bigger than the Eshoppe skimmer, the construction is a little better with the Eshoppe though...either will put the seaclown to shame

Thanks for everyone's input. The Eshopps psk100 is going to be my pick this time around. The seaclone has a no-brainer setup. Anyone know if the Eshopps needs anything extra?
