Hello,

My tank is 40 gallon, and went for 8 months already.

I used Sea Clone skimmer for a couple of months. Last week, after I put 2 pieces of new fish into the tank, the nitrate went up super highly. There are more than one reason that caused the high nitrate, but I would consider this skimmer as one. I googled online, and some bad reviews about this skimmer. Well, I do not know what I should do now.

Should I keep this skimmer or not ? I spent about 80+ dollar from Amazon. I heard there is certain modification to this model, does anyone have similar experience?

Thanks for advance

Mike

not the worlds best skimmer, i would upgrade... i had one for nearly a year and made the jump to an aquac remora and never looked back..
best of luck.

I would strongly consider upgrading.

I'm using the same skimmer mine is the 100 model and I have it hanging and it hasn't done much yet still calibrating it but the tank is fairly new only a couple months old. Seems to be working though. If I may ask what makes a skimmer better than others is it the shape, pump etc. It may be good to know if I end up changing mine out to.

I have one, Bioball Mod, venturi mod, and I'm as bold as to run it without the pre-filter.

I'm not at all impressed with the performance even after the modifications. It will go through these periods of zero skim, and I'd like it to skim a little lighter, Can't control any of that because you can't control the cup height.
