I got an old seaclone skimmer sitting around. I've thought of turning it into gfo reactor. Any thoughts on this idea or other projects I could utilize this for?? Thanks

Tagging along. I used mine once just for water circulation/aeration on a QT tank. I put a bag of carbon in it one time just for the heck of it and it worked ok. I'd like to see some other ideas, or even better, someone that can make it actually skim! I think using it with Chemi Pure Elite or something like that would be a good idea.

Nice!! Mine doesn't have the uish tube (?) On it, so I was able to incorporate a little Rio power head on it. After that, I dropped a 1/4 cup of phosguard in and it tumbled. I did all this in a 5 gallon bucket. Not sure if it'll work, but that's why I'm asking.

IM curious too. the tube cracked a long time ago so it aint worth using for a Skimmer anyways. lol

I had a seaclone laying around and modded it into a bio pellet reactor. First I cut down the tube since it was very tall I cut it to just a little taller than my sump water level. Then I took my dremel and removed the acrylic tube from the upper black plastic part. I then cut two acrylic discs and drill a bunch of holes in them. I used tubing to connect a maxi jet to the bottom input of the seaclone. I removed the collection cup and epoxied a fiberglass stick to the collection cup lid to hold the top disc in place. and then glued that to the upper plastic part. Push the black plastic part back onto the big tube and there you have a biopellet reactor. Worked great although I am not running pellets on my new system. This may sound confusing if I can find the reactor I maybe can post a pic.

Sounds pretty good. Would love to see pics if you can find it. Sounds like what I'm looking to do or simply mod it in a gfo reactor.

well once you cut the tube to the length you want put a foam circle in the bottom, add your media, then add another foam circle and put the top back on very easy to do. I had to mount the top acrylic circle in mine since the biopellets need to tumble. If you cut the foam circle a little larger it would prob sit in the tube above the media for you and work fine. And as for attaching you pump I just used clear tubing and when I needed to downsize the tubing I inserted a smaller size into the larger one to make it fit the pump and it worked great.

I have a rio that fits perfect without tubing, but might try tubing because of the flow. Thanks

I forgot to mention that you have to remove the collection cup then take out the o-ring, then pull out the inside acrylic tube, then you are left with an eight inch tube glued inside of the skimmer, I used the handle of a hammer and a screwdriver and broke that tube out of the skimmer so I was left with only the outer larger tube and then I put the disc into the bottom.

Working on the same thing now too. Many thanks
