Hi all, the Seahorse Tank is developing nicely. The new Overhead Light is keeping the Macro Algae healthy. It was necessary to add a refugium grow light underneath. The refugium still has several weeks until the Tiger Pod Population becomes self sustaining. For now the Reef Tank and the Seahorse Tank are receiving 5 day old Brine Shrimp that are being fed USDA Food Grade Spirulina ( tablet form that slow dissolves, 2 / Quart ). The feeding begins at 48 hours when tapped off the first time ( 1 teaspoon eggs / quart ). This feeding will continue until the 1 lb can of eggs is gone. The Coral Tank is loving it and the new Frags can use a head start.
PS>> I put in the Different Tank Build ( Reef Tank ) picture because the Tanks are Twins in all ways accept, No Crushed Coral in the Seahorse tank ( bad mojo ), and a Tulle Fabric Safe Corral for the seahorses.

Coming along nicely!

I’ll have to try the tablet spirulina once I run out of my current bag. Sounds like a great phyto alternative for rotifer cultures.

Hi there, The Tablet that works best is a Foodtopia 100 % Pure Spirulina. There are others and some Chlorella Algae ( cracked ) Powders. Only Blue Green Spirulina works with the Seahorses and Coral as targets. Every other form, than tablet, tends to overwhelm the Shrimp if added at once ( powder is the worst ). The Foodtopia have nothing else at all ( a tiny amount of Binder can crash the batch ). Another feature is that the compressed tablets tend to sit at the bottom ( around the air pipe for the first 24 hours ( small release ) then when Plump, they will tumble around. So, one tablet after 48 hours and the first decant. Two tablets after 72 hours. The two tablets will be all they need in a bottle ( 1 quart ) for the first week. I use 1 teaspoon of eggs and a scant amount of Baking Soda to charge a Hatching Bottle ( it takes two, 24 hour and 48 hour ). This will run for 48 hours before Decant. There are Too many Shrimp to go into the First Feed Bottle so about half are fed directly to the Tanks or put into the Daily Bottle.
PS>> To deal with Waste, always replace drawn water with fresh ( top off ). The Daily Bottle ( 5 day in this case ) is half drawn in the morning. Fresh water is a 50 % water change. The extra fresh shrimp from the Hatching Bottle ( 48 hour decant ) can be added to the Daily Bottle after it is refilled. They will feed like the older shrimp and be loaded for the Tank Fry and Coral.
