I am redoing my seahorse tank. About a month ago, I lost my two seahorses and was pretty bummed about it. I was able to narrow down the issue to bad saltwater that I was using. Over the past month, I have contemplated many times about just giving up on keeping seahorses. However, I have decided that is not an option. I have been doing water changes and working on getting the tank back in shape over the last month and will be adding the first seahorses next week.

I plan on keeping the stock list simple with a pair of hybrid seahorses (h. reidi x h. erectus), a green mandarin and a bangaii cardinal. I am upgrading the lighting to an Apollo cube LED fixture. I will also be adding some easy, seahorse friendly from my reef to the seahorse tank.

I will keep this thread updated with my progress.

I am looking forward to seeing the pictures of the tank and seahorses. I want to do a smaller horse tank one day but just no room for it at the moment ;)

I'm setting up a smaller pony tank this weekend :). Will pick up a 46g bow front this week and get it started. Hoping the stand will allow a decent sump so I can get another pair. I'm really looking forward to planning this one. It will be several months before I'm willing to move my current ponies but the planning will be fun I think. We can take this journey together :)

Awesome, Lisa!! I am looking forward to hearing about your journey.

Update: I got the seahorses today!! One seahorse is doing awesome and ate a little both times I fed. The other has me a little worried and I am afraid I might lose it. :(

I'll post some pics when they settle in.

Good news both seahorses are doing very well!! My feeding routine is 3 small meals a day. It seems to be working. The one horse spent the first two days hanging out at the bottom, but now is up top hitched to a fake plant. I also got my new light for the tank.

Awesome!!! That's great news! I look forward to pics of your ponies. I love when they finally understand the feeding station concept. Mine tell me when they are ready for food by "bellying up to the bar".

The first pics of the yellow horses is when I first got the seahorses. The last pics were taken tonight. As you can see, the seahorses have lost the yellow coloring. This is why you do not buy seahorses based on their color. They can and will change their color based on their environment.

Beautiful ponies!!! I know what you mean about the color. Mine were almost black when I got them... One has blanched a cream color while the other stayed dark. They are the mood rings of the fish community lol. Congrats they are gorgeous!

Thanks Lisa!!

Hi Krista,
Very nice tank. I love the seahorses. Someday I may have to invest in a smaller tank and devote it to just seahorses like you have done.
I am impressed with your back wall of living rock. Very neat idea. I hope you don't mind my stealing it! lol
Fern

Thanks!! Steal away!! That is why I included pics of what I did to create my foam rock wall. The wall is still holding up great even though I heard reports that it may degrade over time. The only thing I wish I had done differently is use more rock. I had issues with the wall floating until I anchored it down. The foam floats very easily.

On a side note, this thread needs more pics. I will post some up this week. :)

Awe! They are so cute!

Thanks!! My seahorses are almost all black now. I think it is pretty neat how they can go from bright yellow to black.

I took it after a storm tonight. I think it is my favorite pic for right now and just wanted to share.

These new seahorses can be very noisy. I can hear them snicking for food all day long. I have the tank in my bedroom and can hear them 20 feet away in another room. I tried to get video, but it is hard to get the sound right.

They are so loud! Some people don't believe me!! When my strawberry crab, man did my pony have a field day. I had the tv on and could hear little snicks in the background lol
