Sorry none of us saw this but in general most pipefish do have similar needs as seahorses and similar vulnerabilities, so it is safer going with similar tankmates. I do read of folks having fairly good luck with them in mixed reefs with a mixture of fish however.
Seahorses are more easily stressed than other fish and they never stick up for themselves with other fish. Since fish in tanks seem to operate on a hierarchy or pecking order, seahorses end up on the bottom. They can be with fish who are also none confrontational but do not deal well with fish that do participate in the heirarchy, like clownfish. Since this is stressful to seahorses and they get sick easy anyway, its best not to put them in situations like this.

Thanks. I suspected as much. Unfortunately, I woke up a couple of mornings ago to find both of my dragonface pipes dead. They had been eating well and had shown no signs of distress. I do still have a bluestripe, but it tends to keep to the back of the tank when the lights are on.
I would like to know how many ppl are keeping butterfly fish with SH they are #2 on the list so should do well.

the tank I am thinking would be a 105 DT with a 35ish gal sump total volume is 140 US gal.

I was wondering if a pair of Madagascar crouching gobies would be ok tankmates for seahorses in a 120 gallon reef? I know they have poisonous spines but are unlikely to come in contact with the fish. Anyone have any experience? Tanks 120 gallons with 7 garden eels, 9 ponies, 2 blue line pipefish, midnight angel, yellow tang, blenny, cleaner goby, possum wrasse, pair of fathead anthias, and a pair of percs. There are about 6 spiked fin gobies, weird inverts. Tanks been running about 2 years. Countless cocoworms and feather dusters. Gaudy clown crabs and a pistol shrimp. Zanzibar, blue Coral banded and golden banded shrimp and hermits Of different kinds. If the Coral Croucher a would endanger the ponies I’ll put them in my other aquariums

So, what's in a number? It's pretty safe to say those with the 0, 1 and 2 rating are safe to add to your seahorse tank, provided individual needs of both fish are met.
A rating of 3 is pushing the envelope and may or may not work based on the individual personality of the particular fish you are trying to introduce. Please have alternative plans to house the tankmate, should a problem arise. There are plenty of fish in the 0-2 category, so it's really best to leave these be.
Those fish with a rating of 4 have no business being housed with a seahorse, IMO.
