There wont be a cycle.....

If you rinse the sand until it runs completely clear you will not cause a cycle.

If you just keep the sand out you wont cause a cycle.

There is enough bacteria in your rocks to move your tank.

Both are safe. If you put sand in just need to give it a day or so to clear.

when I moved a little over a year ago I kept the same sand that was about 3 years old. I just divided it up into a few 5 gallon buckets and used RODI and some of the old saltwater to rinse it really good. Lets say bucket half full of sand, pour in water and stir up REALLY good. Pour out the cloudy water. Took a couple times to get it near clear then back in tank. Had no issue or cycles

Wasn't in a position to keep old sand. it sat too long with no heater or flow, so I'm not going to chance it, that's why I was thinking on going back bare bottom

Quick update. Able to move old tank out of way. Found crack in back glass. Thank goodness it was in an overflow so not as much pressure or could have been a major disaster

Looks like a high pressure spot caused the crack, or it was dropped. Check stand for high spot/low spot in that area

Got new tank up with all coral in it. Need to situate the electronics. Lost 15-20 Acros but it could have been worse. Thanks to everyone who provided feedback and support.

Last update. 6 weeks later after fail. Tank is up and operational remaining coral look good. Now just have to replace the HW and Tyree Pinky the Bear Acros I lost.
