In prep for my new tank build I have run across the "add on" of seam guards. What are everyone's thoughts on those? Worth the extra money or no?

Not familiar; what are they?

I'm assuming it's referring to armored seams - basically where the tank's seams (usually only the vertical ones) are protected by a thin strip of glass to prevent things from cutting into or burrowing into/chewing through the silicone. I know a lot of people like them so they don't accidentally tear into their silicone with their razors while cleaning. I have no personal experience with armored seams though, so I can't really offer my take on them, but - OP, if you are talking about armored seams - there are plenty of threads on here discussing them that you can look through to get an idea of if people like them or not. Just type in "armored seams" in the search box and plenty will come up.

Yes that is what it is! Thank you! I had only heard of one vendor offering them and they called them seam guards- which turned up little on the search. Will check it out thank you!

I like that they widen the seam, most important part of a glass aquarium, but the cost is absolutely ridiculous for what it is imo. In no universe should they increase the cost of a 120 gal by ~40%.

Yes! That's why I wanted to know more about them. The hobby is expensive enough as it is so I didn't want to agree to an extra fee not doing my research on that part of it

Thanks, should have done the homework!

I got my tank used, but the seam guards are fantastic. I can ram my algae scraped into it like mad and not worry. I mean, I don't really do that, but I can run the blade right to the edge and now worry about how the blade always cuts the silicone just the tiniest bit every time.
