Seams on new Petco 40 Breeder

picked a 40 Breeder up during their sale and have a question about the seams on the tank. I stopped at 2 different petcos and looked at 8 different tanks. All of them had seams similar to the attached pic. Would like some reassurance that the tank is safe to use or should I return it. Thanks.

I've been using an aqueon 40b tank like this for over three years and no issues so far

So I just drilled this thing for an eshopps ghost overflow annnndddd the hole is a little high. I cannot get the inside overflow box to fit without removing some of the trims lip. Is it ok to trim the lip off without removing any of actual trim? Will this reduce any of the structural integrity of the tank?

Can you trim the box instead? I wouldn't mess with the trim since it is part of what's holding it together.

ideally thats what I would want to do but don't have the machinery necessary to do it properly.

The trim would still be intact, I would just be notching out about 6" of the small lip on the bracing.

Do you know anyone with a table saw or even a woodshop they might be able to do it.

Wouldn't your water level be a little to high if you do it that way

I dont. Oh well, to the trash this goes. I followed the template and double checked but looks like Ill have to lower it on the next one. The bulkhead comes already installed on the inside box so you can't match it up properly prior to drilling. Don't want to risk 40 gallons on the floor.

Actually it would be perfect bc the teeth of the weir are a bit longer. These overflows work best on rimless tanks....

I had to trim the trim for the Eshopps box on my 29. No biggie. Trim plays no structural role anyhow; well unless there's a cross brace. That you should leave as is. These overflows are poorly designed.

Do you have a pic? And I cant agree more these things are poorly designed...

Best I can do .....

I retained most of the trim - just cut out the lip.
