Hi All, First post on R2R and happy to come out of the lurk!

I've been in awe of the success a lot of the folks on this board have had keeping S. Gigantea and am embarking on a mission to find and keep a healthy one of my own.

I live in Brooklyn, but can't seem to find any LFS (NY Metro / NJ) that seem to carry them, or, are willing to order. I'm curious where new and seasoned Gig owners here are finding their anemones online, or, if folks have been able to work with LFS/online shops to ship? Any help/leads would be greatly appreciated.

A bit about my tank... I have a Deep Blue 80 mixed reef. Anemones include a handful of Rainbow BTAs and a H. Mag that I got earlier this year that I was able to save from bleaching/shrinking and is now thriving. They're all under a pair of Orphek G4s.

Thanks!

Hi! Galactic Corals out of Houston is where I source the tough to find anemones. They don’t update the website much so it’s worth a call, I visit their shop all the time and the nems are GORGEOUS! Always healthy an a good variety

Yikes @RobMcC. How big was yours at first? And how long have you had it?

Their size is definitely something to plan for. My Mag was only 4" when I got it, it's now about 8".

I'd like to start small, 5-8" and avoid feeding outside of it catching food from the water column. My LT goal is to eventually upgrade to a 180 gal peninsula in the next 2-3 years (looking at a home purchase next year).

Thanks @James M and @footgal!

I recomended @galactic_coral in Houston, Texas. They got some great anemones. I got these three anemones from them. The first on on the cup there completely recovered and is a beauty also.

I’ve had a few over the years. But the 30” one I’ve had for 3 years and was maybe 18” when I bought it. I don’t target feed them, but they still grow fast. They are amazing animals. Sadly I had a bit of a disaster with mine 6 weeks ago and one moved for the first time ever. Of course into a power head giving it a ‘hair cut’ which killed half my tank (heartbreaking loss of most of my anthias, most of my wrasse, but worst of all my golden dwarf morays and my pair of crosshatch triggers). Still upset by that. Make sure you nem proof pumps. I thought I had , but a mistake after a water change changed all that...

Here is a pic in the current holding tank. The tank is 2 foot wide and you can see it pushed against the front and back by a fair few inches. This a haddoni and not a gig. I last kept gigs before moving to the US and all my photos are on the uk’s r2r equivalent. I don’t have easy access to the photos right now.

Nice heron!

Thank you.... will do.
So I went and visited @galactic_coral and spoke with David, what a super cool dude; seriously. Just speaking with him for the hour or so we spoke... was like talking to an old friend. Ill for sure be back to pick up some of the prized goodies they have.

Did they happen to have any gigs in stock? Thx!
