I know its silly to start a thread on this but its annoying me. For whatever reason, I'll put a small amount of seaweed into the clip, but it seems after the fishes take their bites at it, sooner or later it all falls apart and it ends up accumulating on the overflow filter.

Is there a trick to make sure ALL of the seaweed stays on the clip?

Are you folding the seaweed multiple times before you put it in the clip? If there's quite a bit of seaweed hanging from the clip the easier it will be for the fish to remove the whole thing. A condensed little nub is what you want.

On a side note; you could just cut the seaweed into small 1/4" pieces and feed it like you would flake food. You might want to let it soak in some water for a few minutes beforehand though. This will soften it up and keep it from floating into the overflow.

Check out my post HERE that shows how to cut the nori into little strips that make it easy for the fish to pull off a mouth-full while still leaving the rest of the nori on the clip.

Buy better algae sheets, put the clip in a low flow area.

The stuff I buy off Amazon is actually sushi wraps, intended for human consumption, unseasoned, uncooked, sun dried Nori sheets. Great big bag, much cheaper than anything I've ever found from a pet food seller.

My tang and rabbitfish love it... doesn't last long enough to fall apart.

You're right, I am not folding it, it rips a part it feels like if i do fold it up.

Can I get a link for the Nori you use? I'm currently using Ocean Nutrition

I had the same problem so I switched to these.

I picked up enough extra pouches to pre pack at least 2 weeks worth at a time. Makes feeding easy. Before work I dump in 2 cubes of mysis, punch the magnet through the web feeder, and slide it down the side of the tank. I pull it out when I get home from work. It takes me all of 1 minute to feed my fish in the morning since I don't have to deal with cutting and folding algae every day.

I buy my nori at my local oriental market (H-Mart). Extremely wide selection....just make sure you get plain nori.....not the ones that are spiced or salted.

I have only 1 tang that's about 3" long, so all my nori is cut into 1" squares. That's what he gets every other day. Are you sure you aren't feeding too much?

that's a great idea! I'm going to try this method next time. thanks for the link.

Very possible im over feeding. The seaweed is only for the Foxface and Kole Tang

What clip are you using ? When I was using the regular clips my fishes would always pull out the nori fold or not got one of the two little fish veggie mag and problem solved although nori don’t last 5 min in my tank.

All above is great feedback. All I would add is that if I have agressive seaweed loving fish like I have a bat fish u may need a stronger clip.
I use two little fishes seaweed and alternate green and purple as my powder blue has to have his fix so I get the bat on the clip and the PB on a rock with a rubber band. Gotta find what works for I!

When I had tangs, i fed the Julian Sprung green sea veggies with the two little fishies clip. Folded one sheet up until it was as wide as the clip and stuck it in the tank. The two 3-4" tangs I had could eat all day and it wouldn't come off or melt. The purple bag would fall apart in minutes and would turn the tank into a snowglobe.

I've got two of the little magnetic veggie clips but still had the same problem as the OP. Especially with my Purple Tang and my Angularis Angel for some reason. Was at my LFS and they had these in their tanks and the fish loved them....inquired and it turns out one of the guys that works there makes them using his 3D printer at home. Had him make me a set and works like a charm...no floating seaweed and all the algae is gone always when I go get them and reload them. So far 3 weeks going and no problems! Absolutely best purchase!

I roll it like a small little tube and then clip it. Makes them work hard and never get floating pieces of nori bc whatever they rip off they eat it

I'm using the basic ocean nutrition clip, and I have been following the advice of folding it up and it has been working! very minimal floating pieces, before it was very bad. I will be looking into other style of clips for the future

I use a pvc pipe wrap nori around then use a couple of rubber bands to hold it and hang In tank with fishing line. Nori stays in place and my fish seem to like feeding off it.you might try and see how works for you
