I'm new to the anemone game and last Sunday I picked up a sebae not knowing much about them.

Anyway, it doesn't move around the tank. Doesn't open, but doesn't look unhealthy. Its up about midway to the top of the tank and the foot isn't attached to the rock.

It ate a chunk of silverside the other day.

Any ideas?

Seabae anemones dig their foot into the sand bed and attach to something under the sand. They are not generally a rock dwelling species. If it won't attach it's foot to anything, it will most likely die. Try digging a hole in your sand and placing it there.
Good luck.

I'll get some pics when I get home. Parameters are good. I'm using a coralife light. Not sure which model but its old with 2 36 inch fluorescent bulbs, and two of the same but in blue/uv whatever they call it and also some blue LED bars. The tank is a 65 gallon 36x24x18 I think. 3.5 inch or so sand bed, maybe 70 pounds of live rock.

Pictures? What lighting do you have? Tank size? Any other nems? Water parameters?

Here's after I dug a small hole and placed it in it

Additional details.

Mouth is not open. Tentacles appear to be in good health, not bleached (I don't think).

Sebeas are high light anemones and when you say "good" hopefully this means nitrates around 0, nice move digging a hole for it, I had to do this for my sebae, he is around 14-16 inches across, yours does not appear to be bleached

It would help a lot if u could give some hard numbers. In my mind sebae nems r the hardest to keep. I've done a lot of reading on all types of anemone care and health. With all nems a few points in pH can make a big difference in there health. Also I've noticed in my own tank that when my alk falls below 8.5 my nems tend to not look so hot. So some hard numbers would help us more then "they are good". Also I've read that sebaes like to b in a little warmer water like 80 to 81 degrees.

Looks like a normal newly added nem to me. Very normal. It'll take a week or more before he'll start exploiting surroundings... at least that's been my experience.

He is new. Added him on Sunday. I was just under the impression it would be much sooner. I'll get some hard numbers back in a bit.

If a nem moves higher up the glass it may be a
Igniting issue I had a carpet anemone that stayed attatched to the glass midway down my tank due to insufficient lighting. Trex helped me with my problem

Ok sorry for the late reply but my ammonia is 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 10

What else do anemones need a test for?

This is a pic of when I got home from work today.

He was flipped upside down so I flipped him back over.

And a pic of the overall tank.

I still believe he's fine. If in a week or two he still seems stressed I'd be a little concerned... but for now I don't think you've got reason to worry.

Cool. If he doesn't foot up by like next Wednesday I'll holler at you guys! Thanks!

Anytime! Btw I was told by TREX who seems to be the local nem xpert not to feed them silversides. I can't recall the reasoning but figured I'd pass it on for what it's worth.

I completely agree, and was about to post that very thing. I would avoid feeding it anything large like silversides, as it can stress the anemone (difficult to digest and uneaten parts can cause water quality issues) and make things worse. I would stick with small chunks of shrimp, or blowing some mysis into its tentacles.
