I purchased a Sebae about 2 weeks ago and he has yet to attach to anything. I can't see any damage from what I can tell, but it seems he is at the mercy of the current. Is this normal?

No, it isn't normal. He should have attached by now. A picture and your water parameters would help greatly in a diagnosis. Also, how old is your tank?

Also, what lighting are you using and tank size? My sebae attached within 5 minutes of being placed in the tank.

Anemones are at the will of the current in your tank but that current if to strong can kill the anemone. They move based on where they are comfortable in the flow.

Sebea anemones most show up in a white color, which is bleached this is not a normal coloring. Brown to green to purple is more accurate of a color for sebeas.

They prefer to be in the an area where the sand and rock work meet, where they can use the small bumps on their base to hook onto the rock work or sand to spread out.

I would suggest lowering the flow and find a spot where the rock work meets the sand and dig a small hole and see if you can get the anemone to move its food under the rock work so only the outer disc is showing.

Here is a malu and sebea next to each other

What color is it? If it is white, it is bleached. Bleached H. crispas have a horrible track record for recovery.

Is it an H. crispa or H. malu? (( both use the common name "sebae" ))

Ok, I will get some pictures and parameters when I get home, but the tank Is 92 gallons and 3 months old. He came to me from the LFS white in color with purple tips. I use ecoxtic leds for my lighting. It may just be moving, I just thought it would be odd that its always picking a spot where the light is not full and blocked by a rock.

Thanks for the help!

Since it is bleached, you need to acclimate it to your lights. If the LEDs are dimmable, use that; if not, I use layers of window screening --- usually 3 layers, with removing a layer every 5-7 days.

Trex

As TREX said the anemone is bleached and adjusting to your lighting picking a shaded area is good because it means your tank is good just your lights are stronger then what the anemone is used to.

Does it accept food?

Ok, as an update, he is in the same spot I typically find him and wide open, so he appears to be healthy. I thought that spot was because of the current, but it would make more sense if he was trying to get some shade. Still need to work out the logistics of try to feed him since I have a bow front and of course he picked the back.

Thanks for all the feedback!

feeding
