On this fine Thursday night I’m filling up a Red Sea Reefer 425 on my second floor apartment. What are you doing?
Do you have a tank on a second floor? If yes, how much liability insurance did you go with? lol

I had a 125 gallon on the third floor. Long story short, i flooded my sump a few times. The water travelled down the side of the wall downstairs and ruined the 1980s particle board kitchen cupboards. They tried to sue me but lost. :) canada though.

Moral of the story get renters insurance.

My first two reefs were on 2nd floors.

The first time I was making DI water in my kitchen, forgot to turn it off. Water went downstairs to the basement and shorted the smoke detector. My neighbor came up to tell me that there was an alarm going off in the basement. After that all water was made in the shower.

The second time in a different apartment, I had my ATO not properly attached to the sump. The pump came on and pumped water on the floor which went downstairs to the local business, made a few bubbles in the ceiling sheet rock. My landlord was worried the tank had sprung a leak. I think the crease is still in the sheet rock today.

I am on the fourth floor and the only leak I’ve had was from my cold water shutoff valve under the sink. Not even related to the aquarium though I did panic thinking it was the RODI system. But filling in the shower is a good idea that I am definitely going to implement!

Oh I’ve flooded it once but just in case I went ahead and took out a policy for a million dollars worth of coverage
I figure at that amount I’m covered for anything and everything under the sun

2nd foor of an apartment is way different than 2nd floor of a house. Any relatively modern apartment building is going to be built with reinforced concrete slabs that run all the way to the exterior also serving as a firebreak. If your tank broke, the people below you probably wouldn’t even know it.

They would be flooded with 100+ gallons of water lol
