I purchased this setup on Monday from someone with 3 fish and a few frags. Everything seems to be doing well and water stable. This is my first saltwater tank. A few questions:

I would like to add more rock to the tank. Would that be an issue if I do if slowly?

The sand is fairly light and being blown into high and low spots as shown in the pictures. The two powerheads (qp -16) are turned down to the lowest flow. Is there a better way to place the powerheads to avoid this? Could I add a bit of heavier sand?

Is the algae on the back is the tank something I can scrap off without issue?

Well, congratulations and WELCOME! Might want to head over to the Meet & Greet Forum and officially introduce yourself.
Then, I would head over to The Supreme Guide To Setting Up A Saltwater Reef Aquarium

Adding rock slowly is a good idea. Be cautious on what type of rock you add. Read all about the types of rock first. Also, make certain that you have enough nutrients to grow a good colony of beneficial bacteria and a way to maintain it. Test parameters often with quality test kits.

With regards to your questions about sand. Flow in the DT is important. Heavier sand would help. Also, consider redirecting flow to minimize blown sand. Have the left-front wavemaker directing to the right-rear, mid-depth, and the right-front pointing towards the overflow on the left-rear to push crud over the overflow.

You can scrape the algae off the back of the tank, just be prepared to change out/clean your filter socks more often in your sump.

Thanks for your help and the response. Is there any benefit I’m gaining from the algae? What type is it?

No real benefit. Just your standard run of the mill film algae. I haven't scraped the back of my tank in years. Gives my tangs something to munch on. Can get out of hand if you do not have grazers in your tank to control it.
