Howdy folks, I received a couple tangs from a supplier who does quarantine in advance (changes a premium for it). My partner picked them up from the airport and as I wasn't home she placed them in our QT just in case.

It wasn't until the fish were in QT that she noticed a mark on one of the fishes sides.

When I got home I couldn't tell if it was a aggression wound or something else. I decided to do a fresh water dip just in case and have a closer look

I wanted to to get a y'alls opinion on whether this aggression on the body or possible ich/parasites/flukes.

Thanks in advance.

The photo was taken a day ago and the mark is mark is still there on the body in the same place

Sorry, I’m struggling to see the mark you are talking about. I see some sand on the fish? Is the faint dark mark behind the pectoral fin?

How is the fish doing today?
Is it eating?

Fish can get banged up a bit during shipping.

For future reference - it is best not to dip newly shipped fish, it is too stressful. Dips won’t cure any disease and without a microscope they really can only diagnose one species of fluke, Neobenedenia.

Hi Jay,

I was referring to the larger white area on the body that it sounds like you are referring to as sand.

I think that is my answer though if it looks like sand to people here. I was worried it was parasites.

It doesn’t seem to be moving around like sand. It’s staying there. My QT also doesn’t have a sand bed but maybe the suppliers did - I’ll ask.

Fish is eating happily enough. It’s got a slight twitch/sporadic movement but it feels more related to seeing me or the other fish move and being scared.

Thanks for the input, as always appreciate it

Well, I doubt it is sand then - that would have rubbed off by now, tangs don’t have thick skin mucus anyway.

I’m not sure what that is - I can see individual spots, but it isn’t ich. Tangs produce mucus plugs when stressed, but those are not bunched up like this. Twitching is a really common symptom of flukes, but flukes don’t look like this either. Possibly the twitching isn’t related and IS flukes. You might consider a Prazipro treatment in that case.

They’ve had 3 weeks of Prazi, copper and I’ve done an extra week now of both too (making sure copper levels are ok each day) the photo was from a fresh water bath.

I’ll keep an eye on everything and see how it plays out.

Seems a bit unusual. Hopefully it’s just a wound during transport - I just wish I was around when my partner received
