I have aquired 6 large peices of what I was told is Bali reef rock. The person I got it from told me he had it in his aquarium but it has been at least 2 years that I know of that it has been sitting on a shelf in a classroom. Is this still safe to use? Do I need to do anything besides rinse it off? I also have some larger coral pieces that I have gotten from various places. Can that be used in the tank too?

I hope I posted this in the correct place, I looked around and couldn't find anything else that seemed appropriate but this site is so big an informative that it overwhelmes me.

Thanks for all the help and the welcoming from my introduction post the other day!

Like I said, I am new to all of this. Things can live on the rock for that long even without water???
u never know and its amazing how resilient some marine life can be. I've read one person who left rocks outdoors for years to find something still alive after putting them back in water.
W the price of this hobby and how sensitive reef tanks can be, I would not risk it. Better safe then sorry later on when/if something goes wrong with tank and trying to figure what the issue is, then u can rule out sanitized rocks. 99% of my equipment are used and I always give them a bleach bath prior to use to disinfect.
