I wanted to add this to the general discussion since I know very few people check out my forum. I think this is a pretty cool project worth checking out. We are proud that our products will be a part of it. Only wish I could be there too.

We just shipped plugs to a bunch of Public Aquariums that are working with the secore project http://www.secore.org/ .

They are not vendors but felt it important to add them to our list. It is a very important project and we are really excited they chose to use our products for this project. The Aquariums that are using our products are listed as follows.

The Smithsonian
Baltimore National Aquarium
Dallas Aquarium/Dallas Zoo
Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium
New England Aquarium/Boston
Sea World Texas
The National Aquarium/ Washington DC

There are about 30 aquariums taking part in the project. Not sure if they are sharing the orders or if different aquariums are using different materials for the project. Things like this are the true reasons We still get excited about the hobby. Just the thought of making something that may help reseed dead or dieing reefs or help repopulate endangered or threatened corals makes what we do here worth the effort. This project has been going for a few years so there is a lot of good information on the site. There is no information about our products there but we will be getting all kinds of pictures and information once they get the project back underway. They are either on location now or will be getting there today. I believe the collection starts today.

So all the aquariums are fragging, in an effort to help repopulate the reefs? Or what is the overall goal of this? I really like how such big institutions are trying to work together to find out information about corals.

No, they are collecting the spawn/ fertilizing it and once it becomes larval they put it in a tank to settle onto the substrate(Plugs). Then they monitor the growth on the ones that settle.

The goal is to try and save coral and coral reefs.

What we call propagation or fragging they describe as cloning. They are starting with gametes. Check out the link in the first post. They explain it in much greater detail than I ever could.
