As some people may know, I don't use prefiltration. No socks, roller mat filter wool etc. This is a section of my sump. There is a small amount of detritus starting to build up, lovely stuff. There already are lots of thin worms of some sort in there even though you can still see the glass bottom. I do have sand in my DT and might add some fine sand to this chamber in the sump to encourage more diversity.

PS the black egg crate is supporting the pump feeding my ATS and will be trimmed back soon.

If theres any pumps in that chamber i would say no to the sand....

2 pumps. 1 2000ltr he supplying my waterfall ATS and a tiny one supplying a small reactor. Now, if I put fine sand in there I would elevate them above the sand by using squares of eggcrate on legs above the sand. I am undecided on whether to put very fine sand (almost mud like) in there like Reef flowers 0.5mm sand

Everytime u turn a pump off the sand will get stirred up and when turned back on itll get sucked in .
