I'm in my second week of cycling and months off from purchasing coral just wanted insite what most people are doing. When placing coral on rock work are you securing plug to rock work or taking coral off plug and securing it? And which way is best?

I secure plug using epoxy putty

I leave the plug attached to the coral and attach plug to rock to give it a good base. I just use superglue and epoxy, I add superglue to plug, then epoxy, then superglue again and attach that to rock.

I know what to use to secure the frag question is are you securing the plug or taking coral off plug and securing it
As I stated, I secure the plug

I guess it depends how confident you are on your placement and what your rock work looks like. I wedge my plugs in. I’ve moved them around a lot to find suitable places. Sometimes old ones get moved to accommodate newer ones. I don’t know how people move them if they attach them?

Another approach is, when the rock is out of the tank, to drill holes in the rock work for the plugs to fit into.

I normally take the coral off the plug, or cut the base of the plug off.

I agree with Ray. I don’t like seeing plugs all over the place. Use super glue to attach them to rock. There’s pros and cons to both.

Only time I dont remove plugs is generally for extra weight in the sand, or if they are zoas. They will cover the plug in a few months anyways.

It sorta depends for me. If it's a stick (acropora sp) I'll generally remove the frag from the plug. If it's something that encrusts, I will usually leve it on the plug but often cut off the stem so that it fits better.

And JB waterweld/SG Gel for securing it to the rocks
