Seeding a new tank from established tank water

Looking to restart my WB 10g but would like to speed up the process of cycling by using water from my reefer 170. The kicker is the reefer has some bubble algae im battling, its been running a while and has nice coralline going and all though. I'm just looking to take 2 to 5 gallons from it no rock or corals but not sure if that ill advised or not considering the bubble algae issue. Pros/Cons ?

Water doesn’t have much - rock, sand, and filter media is where the bacteria is.

The denitrifying bacteria don't live in the water, so adding it would not help that much. A little bit of sand from your old tank would maybe help you cycle quicker. You could also use a piece of filter media from the 170, as that would have even more bacteria than the sand.

Yeah, as mentioned above, filter media or sand would be best. Especially if you want try and make sure no bubble algae comes over. TBH it'll be tough to stop the algae eventually getting there but, those are your best bets because the algae is probably all on your rocks I'd assume.

Seed new tank - Get largish sponge.. Put in existing tank sump for a few weeks. Move sponge to new tank.. Provide food (ammonia) for bacteria.. Done.
