Good morning all, this is my dilemma, in the past the reef tanks I owned were established with "live rock" the biodiversity I had with those tanks was astonishing e.g. sponges, coralline, worms. Much of our enjoyment from those past tanks were the little critters you could find. I believe part of my success was because I bought live rock from several sources, and I dug through live rock rubble piles, most fish stores have, collecting choice pieces of rubble and used those to add diversity. This was a budgetary necessity at the time, I was poor and couldn't afford large choice pieces.

Setting up my current tank I used dry rock, and have been disappointed with the biodiversity that exists a year later. I have been to all my local stores rubble diving, but will poor results. Locally they don't have the established live rock I was used to buying. As my tank is already aqauscaped, I am looking for small pieces of excellent rubble that I can use to seed my tank. Any suggestions...

Thanks saltyfilmfolks, I'll check out Garf.org. I used them back in the day. I have seen mixed messages about current interactions, but why not...

Yup. A lot has changed there.
Sally jo got some fresh blood in there to help her out.
Shipping is cheaper now too.

You can also find them on face book.

You can order LR from the pacific, but it will come by the box.

Wild corals attached to little chunks of rock can get you some nice diversity - the good and potentially the bad.

Any updates on this? I too started with all dry rock. Other than copapods my rock is pretty sterile. I would love to increase the biodiversity in the reef. Did the OP try the GARF grunge?

I didn't. I have almost pulled the trigger a couple times. In fact I may just order some today and take some pics. On a side note, I am struggling overall tank is not happy, so that has consumed my time, trying to figure out my issue.

I just ordered some Reef Grunge. I don't expect to see immediate results more a long term tool. I really wish I could find some sponge covered live rock rubble. My first tank had so much more going on at the macro level. I'll post some pics and updates here once I receive it.
