So I pulled the trigger on a new JBJ 65 rimless AIO. This will be an upgrade to my Fluval Evo 13. I have 2 sacks of ceramic rings in the Evo right now. The new setup will have new un-used caribsea Life rock. I do plan to cycle it out before transferring my current fish, corals and rock. Will it help it along if i put a sack of my cycled ceramic rings in the back chamber of the new system? In theory if i place the same bio load in the new tank with its current rocks it should also be fine too. Right?? I do anticipate some spikes from the new rocks. I do not plan to move anything over until it starts showing that it can cycle ammonia in a 24 hr period.

If your current tank is a healthy one, I'd pull out as much rock as you can if they are coral free, and place them in your new tank as part of the cycling process. My smaller tank tank had a canister filter and I started adding as much rock as I could to it over a couple months while I was saving up for my large tank. When it arrived, I attached the canister filter (filled with healthy bacteria) and the live rock into the new tank. After a few weeks, I removed the canister filter. Now, if you have had ich issues or anything like that, I'd leave everything in the smaller tank and start over. Including quarantining your fish if you plan on transferring them. Oh...and yes, the cycled ceramic rings will help.

nothing has gone wrong with the smaller tank. All rocks do have a coral or 2 on them.

Now this is my opinion, mind you... but if possible I'd use some of the water in your current tank and your ceramic rings to help it along. Every little bit helps. Good luck! It is fun to start up a bigger tank. Be sure to include a build thread. We reefing geeks get all giddy about that stuff. :)
