Ok so my old 40G reef has both Red Cyano and aptisia, i dont want to use ANYTHING from that tank but...

I do need to get pink corraline in the new tank some how.

What would happen if i took a small live rock that was well covered in corraline..one that was relatively smooth and flat without too any hiding places for aptisia and washed it off really well under fresh tap water?

1) Would it help wash off any aptisia spores/cyano?
2) Would it kill the coralline to?
3) Am i just wasting my time trying to prevent aptisia/cyan from getting into my tank?/ Is it inevitably going to get in there when i buy corals anyway?

You'll kill the Coralline but not the Aiptasia. You can scrape some coralline from the rock into your new tank and it will seed the rest of the tank.

Agreed, it doesnt need to be seeded, if the lighting and calcium levels are right, it will grow.

Well as it turns out my finger leather had completely grafted to the rock i had it on, i didnt have the heart to suicide it nor was it worth it to try and frag it off so i just moved the whole thing. I treated the aptisia on that particular rock with aptisia x but now the tank is most likely contaminated. Im still going to cook the other 60lbs of rock by placing them in buckets outside for a few months and then running them in a dead tank with a skimmer and frequent water changes before using them again in the main display tank either way but.......it appears i no longer need to be overly concerned about getting perfectly aptisia free rocks when i buy corals that are attached.....

ugghh..
