Good evening from the east coast…

I completed a 5 gallon nano build for a friend about a month ago. The display tank is 5 gallons and the sump is 2.5 gallons. I've attached a picture of the build prior to stocking it.

As you can see from the photo, everything about the setup is do-it-yourself (except for the light).

I'd like to hear from members; what protein skimmer do you use in your nano.

Thanks

Is that a diy skimmer made ot of pvc??? And driven by an airstone??

That is a sweet nano set up.

Thank you.

It was against my better judgement giving this to a newbie. They loved how my clowns hosted my Nems and they wanted a tank with a clown and a nem. Right now, the tank is cycling with just the clown. Hearty fish and can withstand the cycle I find.

Yes; that is a pvc protein skimmer driven by an airstone. It produced some junk but not much because the neck in the cup was too narrow. The modified is a piece of 2 1/4 pvc with airstone. Then I placed another piece of 2 1/4 pvc through a plastic cup and siliconed it in place. I attached a coupler under the cup and now lay it right on top of the main tube... hard to explain. It works okay, but the airstone is getting clogged quickly. Nothing like a real skimmer.
