So today I tried soaking nori in selcon and brightwells garlic powder. Soon after getting into the tank I noticed my skimmer wasn’t performing.. at all. There’s hardly any bubbles. It looks like there’s boiling water I. The neck.

my guess is I screwed up with the soaking.
anybody have any ideas?

That happens to me all the time. I dont think its related to how long the food is soaking for - atleast what I know of. My skimmer usually ends up working again about 1-2 hours later. I did however stop soaking the food for that very reason.

For me no efefct - Skimmer runs as normal

Forgot to mention - this seemed to happen more in my 20G nano. Doesn't seem to have much of an effect on my 65G. So one can say, tank size matters in this situation lol.

I use selcon and garlic daily with no skimmer problems.

The fat/grease in some things can alter surface tension of bubbles and other things and cause them to top. It is only temporary. The quantity might have to be pretty high.

I added Selcon to my food yesterday for the first time and my skimmer also turned into a boiling cauldron with no foam and it is pushing out an endless cloud of micro bubbles, clouding my DT. 16 hours later this morning, it doesn't look like the situation has improved :( This is a 75g tank with about 95g total volume. I'm not sure if I used too much or what but I just put a dropper full or so on a small pile of freeze dried mysis for 5 min or so, then added some tank water to make it pourable and poured it in the tank. It clouded the water a fair bit at first.
