Hey everybody!

Just wondering what your opinion is on Selcon and Seachem’s vitality as food soaks. I have a purple tang with really bad HLLE face scars and have been using vitality for months with zero improvement. We struggle to get Selcon here in the UK but I stumbled upon some online this week and got a bottle. Would like you opinion on these products.

I personally use selcon, helped my tang with HLLE in a few weeks along with heavy nori feeding and being the only tang in a tank. Smells like the docks and will cloud your tank during feeding tho.
Good stuff and it seems to make everyone want to eat. I use it during the entire qt period and then once weekly in the DTs.

Purple tangs with long term HLLE scars have a poor prognosis for remission. No studies have shown that any food additives, by themselves will resolve HLLE. Of course, a better diet can't hurt, so most people try that route.

The trouble I have with food soaks is that you have no way of knowing how much material is actually ingested by the fish, and how much gets washed out into the tank.

I’ve been soaking pellets with it Jay so they soak up the selcon entirely. I’m pretty confident the fish get quite a bit. The HLLE has sadly not improved at all but my other fish look very healthy indeed since using it so I may keep it up. Very expensive here though.
