Selcon

It's good stuff but careful with it...
You'll add a bunch of needless nutrients into the tank and cause spikes if you're not frugal with it

I've never used it, but I do feed a lot of different kinds of foods though. Variety has been key thus far.

When I make my frozen food I add a whole bottle to them mix. (i make a big batch, over a years worth).

A lot of people put it on their nori, put a few drops on, and let it absorb... I'm not sure how I feel about that because I did that before and each time you can see the selcon wash away, maybe there is some left in it?

I felt that it was only beneficial when added to dry foods that could absorb it, such as flake and pellet foods. Flake and pellet foods definitely benefit from it.

@Paul B notably soaks his dry food in fish oil. Like from a supplement pill.

Noori turns to mush once it's fully wetted, so I don't recommend adding it there.

Ideally, other types of food would already have these good oils (and maybe live bacteria if you're doing it right!) in them and would not require supplementation.

That said, I've heard of folks dosing a little of this stuff directly to the tank as coral food.

Almost no foods freeze well for that long. Emphasis on "well", since you're going to the trouble for the superior nutrition....and that's what breaks down in the freezer over time. The food will still be "edible"....that's not really the point.

If I were you, I'd make food at least twice a year if you can control the batch size to that degree.

Yeah I thought about it, it was the first time I made it and made too much..

Mush? When you stick a sheet of nori in the tank is instantly absorbs all the water and become flexible and stays on the clip until the fish eat it. Same thing with adding selcon. I just add the nori to the clip first and then add the selcon that way I don't have to handle the wet nori. Thats my experience anyway.

Maybe "mushy" would be a better characterization than simply "mush". It does not become like a bowl of mush. If your fish let your noori last to the end of the day you'd see what I mean.

;)

And it takes a while with noori...it doesn't instantly become waterlogged.

This is one reason why I don't think noori is a good carrier for (e.g.) selcon...it's not all that absorbent at first. (Why folks claim to see the Selcon drift off the noori into the tank in a lot of cases.)

I agree with this. I feed PE Mysis, PE Calanus and LRS Reef Frenzy. My fish stay fat, healthy and colorful without adding anything to their food. I'm sure Selcon couldn't hurt if I use it correctly, but I don't feel the need to spend additional money on it myself.

How is selcon spike parameters as company one there claims main one does not cause spikes im curious is all

Anyone use selcon to soak there food in to help there fish stay healthy? Or why do you all use?
I use it plus garlic and another vitamin in my big tank with my tangs and angels. I dont use it in my 70 because my lionfish and marine betta wont eat the food if its got anything soaked in. Lol but I highly recommend because my fish in my big tank are super heathy and glow with that stuff! Especially my powder blue tang and regal angel which are harder to keep
