Don't do a pair of the same species of wrasse, they don't form bonded pairs.

Don't go with a Halichoeres or Coris species of wrasse with a dragonet. They will outcompete the dragonet for pods.

A jawfish will be fin with only 2" sandbed.

A dwarf lion would be an excellent choice, and really don't produce too much waste.

I'm still trying to figure out if this post is serious or not.

I think that there's maybe two fish that you suggested that would work in that size tank for a long period of time. Why not aim for smaller, easier, less demanding fish that don't require a huge pod population?

TJ, I agree with you about 2 of the same species of wrasse. I don't know if you are implying that's what I suggested, but I definetly didn't. The dragonet, your probably right. I thought if one fed the wrasse well enough, (which I do with mine) the dragonet wouldn't have to compete for pods. I have tons of pods that the wrasse doesn't seem to be putting a dent on. A 2" sand bed for the jawfish, Why? With all respect a only a 2" sand bed will wreck havok on the tank if a jawfish was added. Here, this is just one of the articles I have read on jawfish. http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-03/hcs3/ my own personal experience of a sand dweller is the diamond goby. He has moved my 2" sand bed a lot! It has moved all of the sand behind my rock work (back of the tank) to the front, as well as the sand on the sides of the tank. He wanted 4" or better sand bed surrounding his den. Now I find myself wishing I went with my gut, and not listened to a friend. I originally wanted a 4" sand bed, but HE told me it was overkill. I feel that was ill advice. I've had to add sand recently. It's not a big deal to me but someone else might not enjoy this.

Dwarf lion (fu man Chu) would be a COOL fish, but I would read this first before deciding. I really like the fu man Chu barbs, colors, and pattern http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-11/fm/feature/

I hope I don't seem argumentative as there are points I agree on but am questioning some advice too. I want to learn just as much as the next guy, as well as be a good team member. A jawfish, dragonet, and wrasse are on my fish list for the 65g. Thanks!

My advice against two of the same species of wrasse was directed toward the OP as he mentioned a pr more than once.

Not all wrasses are problematic with dragonets, but Halichoeres and Coris wrasses can be. Even if well fed these wrasses will continue to graze on pods. Couple this with the fact that it rakes on average about 50g of aquaria to support each specimen of dragonet.

Older literature often cites 6" of sand for jawfish, I have found this not to be the case. Providing adequate rubble is of greater significance. Smaller species such as yellowhead, tiger, blue spot, and some dusky species do quite well in about 2".

Thanks TJ, is there an issue with mixing a lot of rubble into substrate when keeping sand bedding wrasse?

I find just dropping rubble in the vicinity of the jawfish every week doesn't pose any issue for sand burying wrasses.

dragonets.... pipefish... possum wrasse... that sounds like a great group of fish for a 30 gallon FOWLR tank.... make sure they eat frozen or you have access to live food!

and with those fish there you could keep gobies of various types. pseudochromis. a calm damsel. maybe a small hawkfish. maybe a dwarf angel that's not too aggro....

good luck, bro!
