I was ordering new frozen food when I noticed a really old unused cube in the freezer. Not wanting to waste it, I thawed and used it. The following day, all of my angels: Yellow, Flame, Bi-Color, Coral Beauty, but not the Red Stripe and a Flame Hawkfish were dead. The Powder Blue tang, a wrasse and an assortment of clowns were unaffected. Anemones are thriving. Water tests are nominal with the exception of a serious nitrite spike, now dissipating. How long should I wait before repopulating?

Rancid food can cause oxidation of vitamin E, which in turn can allow fatty liver disease to develop, but that is a chronic issue, over month's time.
Bacterial contamination might cause an acute food poisoning issue, IDK.
Aflatoxins can develop in moldy food and that can cause fish die-offs, but as far as I know, it only involves pelleted and dried foods, not frozen.
