Self-Contained, Non-Clumsy RODI Systems

Honestly I filter my water through a zero water pitcher. Before you all start saying it’s not the same, my tds pen reads 0 tds so it obviously works I guess. Right?

How happy are you with this setup? How much wastewater compared to output? Are you getting a full 1-2 years out of the membrane like they claim? My RODI unit just broke and if I cant replace the broken part I’ll probably have to get a whole new unit. This seems much easier than what I currently have. Thanks

Been using it for 2 years now and my DI cartridge is about half used up. I make about 20 gallons a week minimum. I still have yet to replace the RO or the DI cartridges yet. The sediment and carbon however I’m on my 3rd cartridge each. With a 2 stage HI TDS meter I have about 35tds going in and 0tds coming out as of last weeks check. As far as waste, I forget but they do have a water saver option for it now. In the summer I get 5 gallons in 1 1/2 hours but in the cold NC winters I get 5 gallons in about 2 1/2 hours, up to 2 hours per 5 gallons currently. All in all, I’m happy with it for my situation.

Personally I usually advise people to avoid purchasing the Twist. They are pretty inflexible and the filters are pretty pricey overall when compared to other systems. They also do not have the best Membranes in them. Not that they are overly bad, just not the best out there..

May not be the best out there but it is just fine for SPS and I’m not talking about just Birdsnest and Montis.

What I meant by not the best is they are not exactly flexible stage wise, they don't offer a high rejection membrane and you're for the most part forced to buy there MUCH more expensive filter replacements. You have wonderfully low TDS at 35 coming into your system and it will work great for you long term which it has. That's awesome, they just aren't the best system for most situations that's all. They will absolutely work and put out 0 TDS for happy SPS :)

Thanks so much. I appreciate the quick response. Seems like it works great for your needs.

Been using this a few years now on an SPS system.

I bought this thing and was pleasantly surprised with the ease of maintenance. I didn't like how limited the filter options are given the diversity of water supply contaminants that require a more customized filtration approach

Traditional way is very friendly for modding to fit certain needs. They do not seem clumsy to me, provided a clean install is done. I have my Spectrapure in a wall cabinet in the garage. I also Tee's the output line so I can easily double check the TDS with a high accuracy handheld meter, before committing to fill the storage tank.

This actually just made me think that maybe somebody like @Elder1945 should make a really snazzy RODI enclosure that looks stunning. Kyle, please do this!!
Yes, This will go on the list...

It would be nice to have a RODI system that looks nice and also functional.

I will make this :)... I wonder if there is a demand to fill here...

It would also be nice to have plumbing hole options and pre-drilled holes for mounting. I also assume something that looks half decent.

The good thing is that most of all of this stuff is standardized so should not be much of an issue.

I should have time in the next few weeks to figure this one out...

I guess my only other question would be what would someone pay for this? I can design-build to hit almost any MSRP within reason.

YESS!!!! I'm so happy to see you take this on! I'm excited to see what you design!

I think the great thing about this is it doesn't require anything fancy, so something simple and clean will due and costs can be kept down as well.

I would say a few different cabinet sizes or a modular design for different sized systems. Maybe incorporate some filter/tool storage drawers or sections as well.

Watts makes a similar system which I have. I think they are pretty good and the filters aren’t that much save the RO cartridge. Mine has 2 carbon and a sediment besides the RO cartridge. You do need to set up the DI stages separately.

check amazon or Google the different water filter companies.

The biggest issue cost wise is the carbon blocks for these systems, if you look at the capacity of the twist vs a standard carbon block it works out to about half. Yet they are roughly the same price, slightly less, but close enough.

I'd give you as much as you wanted if I didn't have to unmount and disconnect the entire system just to change one filter, not cut my knuckles while using the wrench, not spill a gallon of water on the floor, and not have to remount and reconnect the whole system while checking for leaks.
