Selling equipment?

I think if you have lots of hot gear that people will want to buy in piecemeal (fancy LED lights, vortech pumps, etc) then you can probably maximize cash AND sell thing expediently.

I have sold GHL dosers, Vertex and Skimz reactors, and controller parts on ebay pretty quick for decent amount of what I had invested (sometimes 75% of retail price, which is unheard of)

I've also had some off brand things that NEVER sold for any price. One accessory I offered to give away to somebody who had bought an expensive piece (I was paying shipping) and was told "thanks, but I would just throw it away"

When I have bought on Craigslist (usually tanks) I tend to look for value, which every single time I have found for somebody getting out of the hobby and then wanting to sell quick, which has always meant package deal. One time the price was so good I paid over 100$ for a uhaul rental and drove an hour each way to get a tank, stand, water change station, tons of the expensive grey valves... I forget what all. The deal from the seller was so good that I would have driven further.

So if I were you I would do an honest self assessment, and for anything you think is highly sought after: list it piecemeal and holdout for a price that you find acceptable.
Then I would take anything that you think will not sell fast: bundle it all together, and list it for an unbeatable price so that somebody like me goes out of their way to haul it out of your basement, up a flight of stairs, through a kitchen, trying not to step on your cat(s), and into a uhaul that they will drive across state lines.

Sorry to hear you're leaving the hobby. Come back soon, the addiction is real ;)

Thanks for the good advise! I hate to leave but I’m just tired of the non stop algae and maintenance. I also keep losing fish. I’ve been in this hobby forever but sorry to say I think its time to go .

I hate to see you go due to algae. Algae is not that hard to control. You can make an algae turf scrubber for next to nothing. It will out compete with the algae in the display. It would cost you less than $30 to do so. See my DIY thread for some ideas. Build an ATS for under $30.00

the help is here if you decide to stay!!! best wishes :)

Sorry to see anyone go
Shipping will determine if you want to sell as package ir individually with boxing up items in store for you.

if you want the most money, sell them individually. If you are willing to take some loss, just sell them as a package.

it is super easy to build one. Adjust your light schedule to get the nitrate and phosphate levels you want. I dose iron to help the algae grow.

I have a h380 in the fuge currently I was planning on doing chateo. But currently I have 2 fish down there with some live rock and I was thinking of a way to get algae to grow down there safely

I rely on just the ATS in my overflow now. It produces a lot of algae and is in space that would otherwise be wasted. I have almost 3 full sheets of the fabric mesh and just one inexpensive LED light.
